Initial Conference Cologne

On October 21 and 22 the EXACT Initial Conference took place at the University of Cologne.

The main purpose of the conference was to officially launch the EXACT programme and to highlight the academic challenges the EXACT Fellows could face in the course of their research. The public part of the Initial Conference started with a welcoming speech by the EXACT Coordinator Wolfgang Wessels and a presentation of the project by the EXACT Programme Director Wulf Reiners. The following round table discussion with representatives of the EXACT partner institutions, EXACT Visiting Scientists and EXACT Fellows focused on the topic “New challenges for academic research in area of EU External Action”. After the coffee break, representatives from the EXACT universities celebrated the setup of the EXACT double PhD structures.

The first day of the conference closed with a public lecture on “The European Union after the Lisbon Treaty” by Mikolaj Dowgielewicz, Secretary of State for European Affairs at the Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, followed by discussions. The lecture was featured by an introduction by Dr Werner Hoyer MdB, Minister of State at the German Federal Foreign Office.

The second day of the EXACT Initial Conference was dedicated to consultations on the supervision for the EXACT fellows and their plans in view of the upcoming research and training activities.
